Objective: type 2 diabetes mellitus represents a growing global public health problem due to its high morbidity and mortality rates and the presence of modifiable risk factors. Materials and methods: a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational study conducted among 105 adults in a captive population. The FINDRISC test was applied to classify the 10-year risk of T2DM. Statistical analysis was performed in Jamovi 2.6.44 using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s chi-square test, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: the low-risk (34.0%) and slightly elevated-risk (33.0%) categories predominated. However, 18.0% had moderate risk, 14.0% had high risk, and 6.0% had very high risk. The clinical profile showed frequent abnormalities in fasting blood glucose, blood pressure, and serum lipids. Although women accounted for a higher proportion in the high- and very high-risk categories, no significant association was found between sex and FINDRISC risk level (χ² = 3.21; p = 0.523). Conclusions: a significant proportion of adults are at clinically relevant risk of developing T2D, supporting the use of FINDRISC as a screening tool to guide comprehensive and timely preventive interventions).
